    Extensive health information from the National Library of Medicine. From the main page, click on "health topics" and then search the broad topics to find "Demographic groups." When you choose a specific group, statistics are always part of the contents. Alternatively, use the alphabetical list to find a specific topic; when the topic displays, scroll through the headings to find "statistics."


  • National Center for Health Statistics
    Main clearinghouse for health statistics collected by the US Government. Check FASTATS for quick statistics on a variety of subjects. Also contains National hospital discharge survey, Healthy People 2000 and health care coverage by sociodemographic and health characteristics.


  • National Health Information Center
    Leads to many other government information sites, is searchable, and lists subjects from which to choose.


  • Electronic Data Center (Emory University General Library)
    Assists in identifying statistics via freely available web sites as well as licensed data from ICPSR, IASSIST, and other Social Science data organizations.


  • Federal Agencies with Statistical Programs
    Listing of federal groups that maintain statistics. Each agency has a short description, contact information and a quick link to key statistics.


  • Lexis Nexis Statistical Universe
    Use the Power Tables feature; type in your topic and geographic area and if there is a table with that data it will be displayed.

    RXList site maintains a list of each year's top 200 most prescribed drugs.


  • Drug Statistics Master Page
    National statistics on drug use by age, economic, health and judicial consequences,prevention and international statistics; from Indiana University.

  • CEDR - Department of Energy
    The CEDR Program provides public access to health and exposure data concerning Department of Energy (DOE) installations. Most of the data are from epidemiologic studies conducted by DOE-funded researchers as part of the DOE Worker Health and Mortality Study. Studies of populations residing near DOE installations, and other studies of radiation health effects, such as classic studies of atomic bomb survivors and the radium dial painters, are also represented in CEDR.

  • Statistics and information on countries in Central and South America.

  • India Health Statistics

  • Data on Indian Health infrastructure, manpower, education, diseases, nutrition and family welfare.

  • CIA World Factbook

  • Provides detailed information on countries, including GDP, infant mortality rate, and birth rate.

  • United Nations Statistics Division

  • Comprehensive data drawn from a variety of sorts; charts and graphs are frequently updated. A related site is InfoNation,where you can generate reports on countries selected.

  • World Bank

  • The World Bank provides development assistance to help
    developing countries in the fight against poverty. They gather statistics on developing countries on a variety of health related topics, much of it very up to date.
